Observing The Journey: An Embodied Experience Of The First Limb Of Yoga (Yamas)

About the Class

The first limb of yoga is a collection of observances known as the yamas. Chances are you have heard of these before and you might even know a few you've used in your yoga classes, but did you know that the yamas are meant to be embodied before you ever step onto your yoga mat? The yamas are in place to setup the mindset you need get the full benefit of your āsana practice. In this workshop you will learn through experience as Becky guides you through each of the yamas. Be prepared for some rigorous self-inquiry, bring a journal to process what you learn and take notes about your experience.

 

About the Teacher

Becky Center is much more than your traditional yoga teacher, though she has taught her share of āsana classes while traveling around the country to lead teacher trainings since 2007, she is currently earning her Ph.D studying how Sanskrit chanting effects flow states of consciousness. 

 Becky is one of the most naturally gifted coaches around, and she is not only a certified Yoga2Life Coach but she also now teaches for the program. She started a business with her husband Cory in 2013, and she was able to leave teaching āsana classes by 2014 having created a successful practice they have been living ever since. 

Now she travels around leading trainings and retreats all over the world. She is a devoted mother to an amazing child and has created a balance between a thriving business and a full family life most only dream of - something she joyously guides her clients to achieve.

The Power of Practice: Going Beyond the Mat (Niyamas)

The second limb of yoga: the niyamas, a list of practices to live a harmonious life filled with purpose and meaning. When properly implemented these practices lead to a life filled with happiness, allowing you to understand yourself so you can start responding to situations in your life, instead of constantly reacting based on old trauma and patterns. As you learn each of the niyamas Becky will guide you to internalize them so you can walk out of the workshop and begin utilizing the power of these practices immediately. This workshop is complete with guided meditation, chanting, discussion and journaling. '

Sanskrit Basics & The True Meaning Of Om

About the Class

Sanskrit may sound like an inaccessible foreign language, but when you understand the basics it can help to deeper you yoga practice in a profound way. As a yoga teacher when you know how to properly pronounce the poses you are leading it builds your street cred with your students, not to mention knowing the basics helps make pronunciation WAY easier for you as you teach your classes. This is not a dry Sanskrit 101 class, this is a playful, fun way to engage with the powerful native language of yoga. With the basics in mind, you will dive into the mystery Om with Becky as your guide. Most people (including yoga teachers) improperly pronounce Om and very few understand the true power of this sacred sound. Discover the mystery for yourself in this one-of-a-kind workshop. Make sure to bring a journal.

One goal of every yoga practice is to cultivate balance, yet too often balance is limited to āsana practice, completely missing what it means to live in balance. Through the study of Ayurveda you learn the practices necessary to live a balanced life - and maintain it.
